Four women who have long enjoyed quilting want to share the joy of what has become more of an avocation rather than a hobby. But they also want to connect with other experienced quilters to share tips, discuss techniques and share techniques and tips.

To do that, the women are starting up the Linn Count Quilt Guild, an organization they hope will draw newbies and artisans and even those who want to know what quilting is all about.

Maribeth Kehl, Denise Jurgens, Rhonda McGown and Vickie Thorson have considered forming a guild for quite some time. People have told them they wished there was a group of quilters that shared tips and techniques of the art, Kehl said.

“It’s for everyone from newbies who would like to learn to quilt or piece quilts those who are more advanced,” she said.

The guild’s first meeting is slated for 7 p.m. this Thursday, Feb. 19, at the F&M Bank’s Community Hall.

“We hope to have monthly meetings,” Kehl said.

In addition to having show-and-tell presenters, discussion of tips and tricks and the group hopes to have speakers as well, she said. Refreshments will also be included.

The guild already has its own Facebook page. And for more information, interested people can call 913-535-4664 or send email to linncountyquiltguild@gmail.com.
