Longtime Linn County rodeo announcer now much in demand

MOUND CITY –  Longtime rodeo fans recognize his voice as soon as he picks up the mic in the announcer's booth above the chutes at the Mound City fairgrounds. Troy Goodridge has led the crowds through the rodeo program here since 2010.

Whether he's announcing the bareback riders, roping pairs or barrel racers, whether he is sparring with the rodeo clown or leading the crowd through a quiet moment's reflection of heroism and courage, Goodridge's voice is comfortable and familiar.

However, it is that style of his that has also made Goodridge very much in demand.

The rodeo world has discovered, (finally), what Linn County rodeo fans have known for years: In addition to being a great guy, the Redfield, Kansas-based Goodridge, is a top notch rodeo announcer.

Troy was named Announcer of the Year’in 2024 by the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA). 

“I was busy before, but my schedule has really filled up in the last two years. I’m booked until October,” he said.

July found Goodridge in Alaska, North Dakota, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Kansas.

August starts off with seven rodeos in nine days in Kansas (including Mound City). Then it’s on to Minnesota, Wisconsin, and two in Oklahoma.

Troy announces more Prairie Circuit rodeos than any other RCA announcer.

He will once again be announcing the Mound City rodeo on Friday and Saturday, August 7-8 . Come out and hear one of the great voices in pro rodeo.
