Material Girls met at the F&M Bank Community Center in Mound City on Thursday, April 16, with 17 members and six visitors attending. Three of the visitors joined: Shelley Cochran, Polly Meigs and PepperTulenko. Total membership now stands at 26.
President Denise Jurgens gave name tags she had made to previous members. New members will be given tags next month.
Those making blocks for the patriotic raffle quilt were asked to bring them in May. Once all are turned in, they will be set together, and raffle tickets will be prepared. The first showing will be at the Mound City Historical Society Colonials Day celebration on July 3 at the historical park. The drawing will be at the Mound City Historical Park Fall Festival in October.
Members are requested to bring an “orphan block” to the May meeting to exchange with others. Then they should use that (with other fabrics) to make something such as a wall hanging, tote bag, etc. for showing at July meeting.
Volunteers for refreshments for May were Pepper Tulenko and Shelley Cochran.
Seven attendees had items for show-and-tell. Vickie Thorson showed her quilt with flower design made by “ruching” strips of fabric. Strips, needles and thread were distributed and each present made their own flower assisted by Vickie and Rhonda McGown.
