PLEASANTON – The Mine Creek Battlefield Foundation will sponsor its annual Heritage Day event on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In the past, Heritage Day has been an August event, but hot weather for the past few years caused organizers to move it toward the fall.

This Saturday the highs are slated to be in the 80s. That is particularly good news for the Union and Confederate re-enactors who will be participating in mock skirmishes, portrayals of camp life, training drills and informational presentations

The tentative schedule for the day includes:

  • Presentations by Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and Gen. Robert E. Lee between 10:30 a.m. and noon.

  • Ribbon cutting at Benteen Bridge and Confederate memorial flag presentation at 11:30 in the morning.

  • Mock skirmish between Union and Confederate forces on the east side of the museum at 12:30 p.m.

  • A presentation by George Pettigrew on the Buffalo Soldiers at 1:30 a.m.

  • A presentation by Boone Dodson about the Save the Flags Project at 2:45 p.m.

In addition, there will be vendors and demonstrations of Civil War era crafts and skills, the museum will be open, there will be live music throughout the day, and there will be a food vendor or two serving meals.

There is an admission charge to help raise money for the museum. For more information see the flyer below.
