Mound City alumni celebrate 65th annual reunion

MOUND CITY – About 100 alumni and their family members attended the 65th Annual Reunion of the Mound City High School on Saturday, June 21, at Jayhawk Elementary School in Mound City.

The event  began at 10 a.m. with a meet and greet with members of the six special classes gathering for photos before the lunch was served at noon. The meal was catered by Chicken Mary’s and was served by the Mound City Christian Church youth group.

The two oldest alumni, only a year apart, attending the event are Charlotte New Dunavan, left, class of 1946, and Bonnie Jean Scott New, class of 1947.

The class of 1965 is represented by, front row from left, Francis Demott, Ed Wilson, Fred Augur, Marty Ison, Jerry Poole; back row, Pam Henesey Schmitz, Linda Krall Vaughn, Bruce Kettler, David Nickelson, and Gary Schmitz.

The Jayhawk-Linn High School class of 1975 was also honored at the reunion. Those representing that class are, from left, Larry Hoover, Jim Alexander, Bill Leavitt and Tony Furse. The class of 1975 began their high school careers at Mound City High School but graduated from the newly consolidated Jayhawk-Linn, which included students from Blue Mound and Prescott high schools.
