FORT WORTH, Texas – Mound City bull rider Colton Byram emerged as the biggest winner at the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) Xtreme “Bulls Night Out” held at the Fort Worth Stock Show Jan. 20-21.

The Xtreme Bulls are standalone bull riding events held throughout the year and sanctioned by the PRCA with points (dollars) counting towards world championship standings.

Byram placed fourth in the first round of the bull riding to win $3,400 and qualify for the finals on Jan. 21. He won the finals with an 88.5 score on United Pro Rodeo’s Top Gun, a bull that had bested Byram on two previous matchups.

The finals win added $26,600 to Byram’s total and propelled him to second place in the 2026 PRCA World Bull Riding standings.

Colton is the son of Jeana and John Brownback of Mound City and Keith Bryam, Sheldon, Mo. He graduated from Jayhawk-Linn High School in 2018 and attended Fprt Scott Community College (FSCC) on a rodeo scholarship.

While at FSCC, he qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo three times: 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Although Byram has been sidelined with several injuries throughout his five-year professional bull-riding career, he has ranked in the top 40 in yearend world standings among PRCA bull riders on four occasions.

When asked to name his favorite bull riding wins, (he has many), he listed the 2026 recent win in Fort Worth, the 2025 Xtreme Bulls win at Salinas, Calif., and “of course the Linn County Fair Rodeo win in 2024.”

“Many successful contestants never get the thrill of winning their hometown rodeo. The Mound City crowd is always loud and proud,” he said.

When asked about his 2026 rodeo goals, Colton Byam replied: “Stay healthy, ride bulls, qualify for the NFR (National Finals Rodeo)."
