Mound City High School alumni mark 66th reunion

More than 80 people gathered in the Jayhawk Elementary School gym on Saturday, June 20, for the 66th annual Mound City High School reunion. Alumni and their family members began arriving before 11 a.m. to visit with classmates, and by the time lunch was served shortly afternoon, the gym was a scene of lively conversation as smiles followed recounted memories.
With 2026 Alumni president Katherine Neal Clay president offering the welcome, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited and invocation was given by Hunter Jameson, youth pastor at Mound City Christian Church. The guests sat down to a meal catered by Pittsburg-based Chicken Mary's and served by the church's youth group.
A group of students, who joined the alumni for the meal, were acknowledged as scholarship recipients.
Classes honored this year included the class of 1951, 1956, 1961, 1966, 1971, and the Jayhawk-Linn High School class of 1976, which began their high school careers in the old Mound City school but ended up at JLHS. It was the 50-year reunion for the class of '76.








Alumni officers for 2026 include, clockwise from top left, Katherine Neal Clay (1966), Carol Laird Wood (1970), Bonnie Jean Scott New (1947), and Verna Lee Scott Foerschler (1956). Vice president Joyce Allen (1964) was not able to attend the event.
