MOUND CITY – Mound City officials announced on Thursday, June 16, that the splash park is now open. Hours for the park, which is located on South Sixth Street near the ballfields, are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The grand opening for the park is still slated for July 9, complete with live music, games and refreshments. However with the heat settling in over the region and the dirt around the park drying out, the decision was made to open it now.

Officials are asking residents who use the splash park to take care not to track dirt onto the concrete pad. The city council earlier this month decided to hold off on opening the park because the backfill around the pad was muddy and there was concern that mud tracked into the park would clog the hundreds of yards of pipe underneath the park.

However, the mud has dried and mulch has been laid down around the edges of the park. The city still plans to install a chain link fence around the park.
