Myrna Sue Guion

Myrna Sue (Abel) Guion, 87, died August 10, 2026, at her home. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Osawatomie, 801 West Brown Avenue, on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

Myrna was born January 30, 1939, in Ottawa, Kansas. She was the daughter of John and Mildred (Nichols) Abel. Myrna grew up in the Greenwood Community, and also lived in Mayetta, and Osawatomie.

She attended Greenwood and Pomona Schools and graduated from Pomona High School in 1956. She was a member of the Greenwood Baptist Church. Most recently, she was a member of the First Baptist Church, Osawatomie.

Myrna’s life was guided by her strong faith. She was involved in numerous church activities and served as a pianist and vacation bible school teacher. Myrna volunteered freely of her time in retirement. One of her cherished volunteer efforts was the First Baptist Church Clothes Closet where she worked up to the time of her passing.

Myrna worked in many administrative positions throughout her work-career. She retired from her favorite job, working at the Ozone as an arthritis water aerobics instructor, in 2024 at the age of 86.

Myrna kept busy with her varied hobbies and pursuits. She was a Master Gardner and produced bounties of vegetables and beautiful roses. Myrna taught herself to make stained-glass pieces and became an accomplished artist. She also enjoyed sewing and used those skills to make dresses from pillowcases for the less fortunate.

Myrna married three times: to Ralph Shepherd, with whom she had a daughter, Karen Shepherd; to C.H. Guion; and to Hector Bautista.

Myrna is survived by Karen. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mildred, sister Avis Henry, and brother John (JR) Abell.

Myrna’s fierce independence and kind compassion (she never passed by a person in need who she could help) made her an inspiration to many.
