After 50-plus years of managing the Floral Hall exhibits at the Linn County Fair, the members of the Linnette EHU club have passed the torch to a new superintendent.

“Mindi Laubach, Pleasanton, has volunteered to assume leadership responsibilities of Floral Hall with several Linnette members offering support,” said fair board president Austin Stroup, Centerville.

“The Linn County Fair community appreciates the years of dedication by the Linnette women in keeping the Floral Hall tradition alive”, continued Stroup.

The Floral Hall exhibits are “open class”, meaning that adults and non-4-H youth can exhibit in seven different categories: Arts, Clothing and Textiles, Crafts, Flowers, Foods, Photography, Relics and Antiques. Classes are divided into adult, 17 years old and older; youth, 12-16 years; and children, 6-11 years.

“The Floral Hall classes offer an excellent opportunity for youth and adults to showcase their talents. Floral Hall is located east of the 4-H building”, said new superintendent Mindi Laubach.

Entry check in for all exhibits except flowers is set for Monday, Aug. 5, 1-7 p.m. and continues Tuesday, Aug. 6, 7:30-noon. Check in for floral and plant arrangements is Wednesday, Aug. 7, 8:30-noon.

Complete information on rules and classes is available in the online fair book on the home page at linncountyfair.org by clicking on the Linn County Fair book icon. Contact Mindi Laubach for any questions at 913-285-0092.

*Editor’s note: Mandi Laubach said she needs both exhibitors and volunteers to make the Floral Hall a success this year. She is encouraging people to enter their baked goods, canned goods, antiques, sewing and other crafts this year to make sure the hall’s exhibits the best they can be.

She also said that she needs volunteers to help with setting up the exhibits and during the judging. Here are the times when she needs help:

• Monday, Aug. 5, 1 to 7 p.m. (She said if some volunteers can work 1 to 4 p.m. or 4 to 7 p.m., that will work as well.)

• Tuesday, Aug. 6, 7:30 to noon to help with the check-in, and from 1 p.m. to assist with the judging.

• Wednesday, Aug. 7, 9 a.m. until the judging is complete.

Those who are willing to help can contact her by calling the above number.
