Journal staff report

PRESCOTT – The Linn County dispatch received a 911 call shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Friday, May 16. The caller said that a person had yelled at and then shot a firearm around a group of teenagers in the area of Front Street and Walnut Street in Prescott.

In a release issued by Linn County Undersheriff Bobby Johnson on Friday, it was reported that when deputies arrive in the area they tried to make contact with the alleged shooter

by both telephone and loudspeaker. After several minutes the occupant of the residence exited the residence and was detained by deputies without incident.

The man told deputies that he did not fire a firearm at anyone but admitted to shooting off fireworks. The teens had already left the area when the shots or fireworks were reported and could locate no witnesses that saw anyone with a firearm.

Deputies found no evidence of a firearm being discharged and no evidence of fireworks exploding

The release said that because of conflicting statements with no supporting evidence, the incident resulted with no charges.
