Officials finding many new ag structures built without permit

MOUND CITY – Apparently many landowners in Linn County are building structures without applying for a building permit, according to Darin Wilson, county zoning administrator.

Wilson said that county officials have come across many barns and other buildings with agricultural uses that were built without the owners or contractors taking out a permit. He said that while there is no fee for building permits for agricultural buildings in Linn County, they are required.

Linn County is zoned and requires building permits for all new construction, even if it is agricultural, he said.
