WICHITA – The Kansas Association of Agriculture Educators (KAAE) mid-winter symposium, held in Wichita on Jan. 22 - 24  is meant to recognize impactful teachers across the state. The symposium provides workshops, great networking opportunities, and promotes agriculture education to the public. Trenton Smedley was awarded with the KAAE Outstanding Early Career Teacher Award. 


Smedley is a sixth-year teacher at Prairie View High School in La Cygne, Kan. He was recognized for his excellence and honored with the Outstanding Early Career Agricultural Educator Award by the Kansas Association of Agricultural Educators.


He has a strong passion for Agricultural Mechanics, FFA leadership development and giving back to the Prairie View community. The Prairie View Agricultural Education program currently reaches 90-plus students annually.


As an agricultural educator and FFA advisor at Prairie View, some of Smedley's most favorite things are the agricultural mechanics contest, the annual FFA chili feed, and the Angel Tree shopping experience. 


The KAAE Outstanding Agricultural Educator Award is given to teachers who have been dedicated to the NAAE membership and foster boundless classroom and limitless learning for their students. The award recognizes their role in shaping the future and honors their contributions to developing the next generation of citizens and agricultural leaders. 


The Kansas Association of Agricultural Education is an organization of teachers of agriculture at the high school, post-secondary, and adult levels who seek to advance agricultural education in Kansas. The KAAE strives to provide leadership opportunities, service, and advocacy for its members.


The KAAE is affiliated with the National Association of Agricultural Education (NAAE) and the Association for Career Technical Education (ACTE).
