FORT SCOTT – After placing back in the pack at last week’s cross country race at Anderson County, a Prairie View junior and a Jayhawk-Linn sophomore, placed in the top four in the women’s varsity race at Fort Scott on Thursday, Sept. 11.
The Prairie View women’s team also took second place in the varsity race. The Lady Buffalos team score was 38, two points behind first-place Frontenac and nine points in front of third place Fort Scott. Jayhawk was one runner short of having the necessary five runners to get a team score.
Competitors at the meet were plagued by temperatures in the low 90s, and it wasn’t uncommon for runners to drop out of the races because of the heat.
Laramie Stevens from Prairie View placed third in the women’s race with a time of 23:05:80. Not far behind was Jayhawk sophomore Lily Meyer who came in fourth with a time of 23:30:64.

In helping the team effort for Prairie View, freshman Demi Isenhower placed ninth, sophomore Lilly Petric was 20th, Timberlyn Browning placed 25th, and Marley Johnson was 27th.

For the Jayhawks, sophomore Gabby Brake was 10th, senior Adeline Randall was 13th, and Haelie Wallace was 21st.
In the middle grades mixed team results (boys and girls results combined), Prairie View placed first in the seventh-grade race and Jayhawk placed first in the eighth-grade race.
Jayhawk runners in the eighth-grade, 2-mile race included Darby Brake in fifth place and Natalie Casares in ninth. Emma Brake, who was the only Jayhawk runner in the seventh-grade race, placed 12th.
Prairie View runners in the seventh-grade race included three sixth-graders, Hadi Isenhower in third, Taylee Dunlop in fifth, Emma Goff in 10th. Seventh-graders in the race included Liberty Gray, seventh place; Hallie McCool, 18th; and Riley Jo Hightower, 23rd.

Pleasanton Junior High’s Victoria Meik placed 11th in the seventh-grade race, followed by Cadence Guilfoyle in 26th, and Maygen Hardwick in 37th. Also running for PJHS were two sixth-graders, Raley Conn, 28th; Sophia White, 32nd; and Vanessa Belisle-Martin, 38th place.
