BALDWIN CITY – Prairie View running back and linebacker Parker Schwarz has been chosen as one of three representatives of the Pioneer League to play in the 53rd annual Shrine Bowl this year, bowl officials announced on Monday, Jan. 12. The game that pits seniors from eastern Kansas against those from western Kansas will be played at Emporia’s Welch Stadium on Saturday, June 27. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Schwarz has been assigned to be a linebacker on the East Team.

During the 2025 season, Schwarz was a powerhouse on both sides of the football. As a linebacker for the Buffalos, he had 57 unassisted tackles and 10 assisted tackles. He also had three interceptions that he returned for a total of 57 yards.

The assignment to play defense might seem a little unusual for Schwarz, who was one of the top rushers in the state. This year he carried the ball 213 times and racked up 2,500 yards on the ground for an average of 250 yards a game.

Other Pioneer League selections include Wellsville’s Wyatt Brungardt on offensive line and Santa Fe Trail’s Julion Daniels as kicker and on the defensive line.

Wellsville’s Mike Berg will be the head coach for the east, and Greg Slade from Santa Fe Trail will be the assistant coach representing Class 3A schools.

Of the 44 players on the East Team roster, the most (12) were from 5A schools. Eleven players are from 6A schools, 3A and 4A had eight players each, 1A and 2A schools had three players each, and one player represented the eight-man class II division.
