Prairie View to hand out diplomas to 59 seniors Sunday

Update: The Class of 2024 valedictorian and salutatorian were named on Thursday.


Fifty-nine Prairie View High School seniors will receive their diplomas this Sunday, May 19, during commencement that begins at 2 p.m.


On Thursday, May 16, the high school administration named this year's valedictorian and salutatorian, both of whom are expected to speak on Sunday.


Collin Pope has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2024. The son of district teachers Larry and Julie Pope, he has participated in student council, scholar’s bowl, National Honor Society (NHS), mathletes, baseball, golf, theater, band, jazz band, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and forensics. He will graduate with a 4.0 grade point average and an ACT score of 33. He plans to attend Kansas State University to pursue a degree in architectural engineering.


Cole Holler has been named salutatorian. He is graduating with a 3.8 GPA and an ACT score of 30. The son of Ty and Paula Holler, he has participated in band, jazz band, golf, trap shooting, scholar's bowl, student council, mathletes, FBLA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, NHS, theater, and forensics. After graduation, Cole plans to attend K-State for mechanical engineering.


Both young men have attended Prairie View district schools since kindergarten, and both are academic letter recipients. They are both accomplished musicians, participating both in school-related activities as well as their own band.
