Journal staff report

MOUND CITY – Eleven months after she received an overwhelming majority of the votes, Joannie Reed, deputy country treasurer, was sworn in as county treasurer on Tuesday, Oct. 13. District court Judge Andrea Purvis took Reed’s oath of office during the weekly meeting of the Linn County Commission.

Also sworn in was Kathy Biggerstaff, who replaces Reed as deputy treasurer. Reed replaces Janet Kleweno, who retired at the end of her term.

Back in January Reed watched as other county officials elected a couple of months before took the oath of office.

However, as she explained it, there is an overlap for the the county treasurer post so that if a person new to the office was elected, she or he would have time to learn all of the workings of the office.

However, Reed has been deputy treasurer under Kleweno and has been well versed in the workings of her office.
