Press release

A Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) resurfacing project on K-31 is scheduled to begin the week of July 21 in Bourbon and Linn counties, conditions permitting.

The project involves applying a hot-mix asphalt overlay in two sections from the Bourbon/Linn county line to the K-65/K-31 junction, and then back from the K-52/K-31 junction to the Bourbon/Linn county line. This work will refresh the surface of the highway to allow for smoother traffic movement.

Motorists will be guided through the construction by a flagging operation and a pilot car. Drivers can expect delays of up to 15 minutes.

Crews anticipate completing the project by the end of September 2025. Killough Construction, based in Ottawa, is the primary contractor for the $1.8 million project.

KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit kandrive.gov or dial 5-1-1. For updates on construction projects in Southeast Kansas, visit ksdot.gov/projects/southeast-kansas-projects.
