William H. Hampson

William Herbert Hampson, age 87, of Wellsville, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at The Heritage of Overland Park.

William was born March 28, 1938, in Kansas City, MO, the younger of two sons born to Herbert H. and Alma (Yarnell) Hampson. He grew up and attended school in La Cygne Rural High School, graduating with the Class of 1956.


Following graduation, William began working for the Santa Fe Railroad as a Car Inspector, a career he took great pride in. Outside of work, he enjoyed tending to his garden, spending time on the farm, bicycling and participating in square dances. He had a fondness for Oliver tractors, which brought him joy over the years.


William was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Cletus Hampson; his son, Ronald Lee Hampson; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.


He is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Jim) Player, Marsha Windisch, Lanette (Dale) Silvey, and Billie Jo (Danny) Knowles; nineteen grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.


Service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 22, at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, 203 Main Street, Osawatomie, Kansas, with visitation being held beginning at 10 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will be August 22 at Osawatomie Cemetery, West 327th Street, Osawatomie, Kansas.
