A community meal

Text and images by Roger Sims

For more than a quarter of a century, the annual La Cygne Community Dinner has brought together friends, neighbors and family members to enjoy a Thanksgiving-style meal. The event on Oct. 15, sponsored by La Cygne-area churches and, for the past several years hosted by the La Cygne Christian Church, the meal prepared by volunteers served 22 turkeys, 100 pounds of potatoes, eight gallon cans of green beans, multiple bags of rolls, and dozens of desserts made by volunteers from all of the churches. More than 60 meals were delivered to shut-ins in the community. Chief coordinator for this year's dinner was Melody Kerr (in the white ball cap). The workers in the kitchen included, from left, Dian Dotts, Sara Stevens, and Angela Coe. Serving line volunteers included, from left, Deb Keller, Robin Zumbrunnen, Anna Hill and Patti Seymour. Rebecca Miller helps members of the newly reformed Busy Workers 4-H Club serve desserts.
