MOUND CITY – The Linn County Commissioners received reports from the ambulance and fire department services on Mon., April 7.

Fire Chief Randy Hegwald’s fire report showed that fire calls had been down the past week.  The report showed that there had been six for the past week bringing the year to date totals up to 229 calls.

The call breakdown for the past week was one fire call (one wildland), one emergency medical service (EMS) assist, one vehicle crash, one gas leak, one fuel spill and one illegal burn.

Hegwald noted that out of the 229 calls through March, 146 of those were in March. He said that was a pretty busy month even for grass fire season compared to normal.

“The crews stayed really busy and I can’t thank them enough for what they put in this last month of March, long hours and a lot of time,” said Hegwald.

He told the commissioners that he attributed the numerous fires to the dry weather and windy conditions.

Hegwald reported that the tender truck from Pleasanton that was down last week has had its 0-Rings repaired and has been placed back in service.
