Journal staff report

Organizers of this year’s Christmas on Broadway, La Cygne’s annual Christmas celebration, have a lot of activities packed into a two-hour window on Sunday, Dec. 7. The event, on Broadway north of Market Street, runs from 3 to 5 p.m. followed by the Light Up Christmas Parade at 5:30 p.m.

It will be cool with a high in the mid-30s on Sunday, but there will be plenty of activities on the street. That includes the Christmas Train Ride, Animal Racers Extreme Race Track, free hats and gloves distributed by Ray of Hope, and cookies and cocoa offered by First Option Bank and Peoples Telecommunications respectively.

At the La Cygne Library from 3 to 4:45 p.m. will be photos with Santa, build an animal stuffed toy kits, and gift bag in the Swan Room. In the Great Room there will be music by the Wirsig Family, a Friends of the Library raffle and walking tacos served by the Prairie View Educational Foundation. Face painting for children will be in the children’s library.

At the La Cygne Museum, the Busy Workers 4-H Club will be selling Christmas decorations. A bake sale, hot cider and children’s music and readings will also be featured.

Other activities include Santa’s Bowling at the community building, and reindeer games and the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting at Thayer Park at 5 p.m.

La Cygne Mayor Debra Wilson said on Wednesday that the parade will have at least 17 entries on Sunday.

The Prairie View High School marching band will not be among the entries this year. For the past two years the band has performed its glow-up version with musicians and instrument decorated with lights. However, band director Jeffery Russell said that school officials advised him that no Sunday activities were to be scheduled this year.
