MOUND CITY – The Linn County Commissioners approved a resolution to sell the Pleasanton Senior Citizen building at 203 W 13th St. on Monday, May 8. The property, which is being sold by sealed bid, will be advertised for three weeks beginning this week. Bids will be accepted until 9 a.m. on June 19 and will be opened that day.

County Counselor Gary Thompson explained that bidders need to be prepared to deposit the purchase price or an acceptable letter indicating pre-approval of financing at the time of sale.

Thompson said that if, between the first day of publication up until the day of the sale, a petition is received signed by 2% or more of the county voters, the sale will have to go up for a vote rather than simply being decided by the commission.

The county has purchased and is in the process of remodeling the building previously known as MeeMaw’s Country Kitchen at 602 Main for the new Pleasanton Senior Center site. The purchase of that building for the senior meal site in late April ended months of trying to determine whether to relocate the center or repair the existing building.
