MOUND CITY – The Linn County Commission will consider whether they will sign off on a mitigation plan resolution that will allow the county to apply for assistance for federally declared disasters.

Linda Simons, county emergency management director, explained to commissioners on Monday, Oct. 5, that the region put together the plan instead of each county having to have one. If the commission does not sign off on this plan, the county will not be eligible for disaster funds.

Commissioner Jim Johnson asked that it be sent to all three commissioners and to County Counselor Jacklyn Paletta to review. Commission Chair Alison Hamilton said the request would be put on the agenda for next week.

Also in her report, Simons provided an update on the northeast regional assets equipment that was staged in each county and how it was shared among counties. Anderson and Franklin counties had borrowed the light tower recently and returned it. She said Linn County was using the sign board that was kept in Anderson County for the Sugar Mound Arts and Crafts Festival.

In rural Fire Chief Shaun Tuggle’s report to the commission, he said he received an email from Lt. Cruz Gillespie with the Parker Rural Fire Department. In the letter, Gillespie asked that the county give credit to Morse Auto Salvage for their contribution to firefighter training.

“As you well know hands-on training is valuable,” Tuggle said, reading from the letter. “Morse Auto Salvage in Centerville has always supported the fire department. They once again allowed us to come down and gave us a vehicle to practice on. Please let the commissioners know we really appreciate Morse Auto Salvage for their support.”
