The 6th Judicial District judge nominating committee has included Linn County Counselor Jacklyn Paletta's name on a short list of three attorneys being sent to Gov. Laura Kelly to fill a vacancy in Bourbon County created when Judge Mark Ward retired in early October.

The 6th Judicial District includes Miami, Linn and Bourbon counties.

Listed as a resident of Paola, Paletta is also a municipal judge for Louisburg and practices under Pascolo Law LLC. She formerly was city attorney for Pleasanton.

Other nominations for the position are James Crux, Pittsburg, a Bourbon County attorney, and Madeline Jensen, Spring Hill, an assistant county attorney for Miami County.

Gov. Kelly has 60 days to decide who will fill the vacancy.

After a year on the bench, the new judge will face a retention vote. If retained, the judge will serve a four-year term before facing another retention vote.
