Updated: May 12, 2023

MOUND CITY – The Linn County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday announced the arrest of a Pleasanton woman in connection with a string of burglaries in the Holiday Lakes development east of Pleasanton.

Deputies responded to a report of a burglary on Saturday, May 6, at the lake development and then again on Sunday. While investigating the burglary earlier in the day on Sunday, deputies received a call that a burglar had been discovered in a home when residents returned from an outing.

The alleged suspect, Megan N. Short, fled through a back window and ran into a wooded area and then return to a residence in the development where she was staying, according to a report by Linn County Sheriff Kevin Friend.

Friend said that Short had been a suspect in the previous burglaries, and when she fled through a back window from the residence where she was staying, a deputy was waiting for her.

Short was taken into custody and charged with burglary and attempted burglary with additional charges pending. She remains in custody on a $7,500 bond.

A preliminary hearing for Short has been set for May 22 in Linn County District Court.

According to Friend, when Short was taken into custody by Linn County deputies, she was out on bail on three charges, including aggravated burglary, and four warrants for failure to appear in court following an April 2 arrest by the Fort Scott Police Department.
