Gary Ray Johnson, age 90 of Pleasanton, Kansas, passed away on May 28, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born the son of John Harms Johnson Jr., and Ella Naomi Nighswonger-Johnson on March 10, 1935, in Viola, Kansas.


Gary graduated from Bronaugh high school in 1953 and joined the United States Air Force. After being discharged from the Air Force, he married Regina “Jean” Bender on November 8, 1958, in Ambler, Pennsylvania. She preceded him in death on August 31, 2012.


He spent his career in civil service as an airplane mechanic, working at the Whiteman Air Force Base. He loved fishing and wood carving, making many walking sticks and clocks.


He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and seven siblings, Johnnie, Kenneth, Ada, Erma, Hazel, Jean and Helen. He is survived by two sons, Brian Johnson (Robin) and Donald Johnson (Debbie); five grandchildren, Daniel, Kris, Terry, Samantha and Allen Johnson; and ten great-grandchildren.


Funeral Service will be held at 11 am, Monday, June 2, 2025, at the Schneider Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at the Pleasanton Cemetery.  Contributions are suggested to the Boy Scouts of America and may be sent in care of Schneider Funeral Home P.O.
