Vickie Elaine Smith

We celebrate the beautiful and meaningful life of Vickie Elaine Smith — a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, faithful servant of God, dedicated professional, beloved sister, and cherished friend.

Vickie was born on November 21, 1955, in Paola, Kansas, to Elaine Linville and Howard Shelby. From the very beginning, her life was grounded in family, love, and strong values. Those early roots shaped the remarkable woman she would become.

She attended Osawatomie schools and graduated from Osawatomie High School, Class of 1973.

In 1974, Vickie united with the love of her life, Delton Smith. Their love story was one of commitment, friendship, and enduring partnership. On October 10, 1986, they were joined in marriage, affirming a bond that had already proven strong and true. Together, they built a home filled with love and unity and raised three children — Keith, Derrick, and Robin. Being a wife and mother was one of Vickie’s greatest callings. She poured wisdom, patience, strength, and unconditional love into her children, creating a foundation that continues to sustain them.

Vickie believed deeply in growth and perseverance. She earned her associate degree from Baker University and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from MidAmerica Nazarene University. She dedicated many faithful years of service to Honeywell before retiring in 2014.

Vickie’s life was anchored in her faith. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was Superintendent and devoted member of Ebenezer Baptist Church until her passing. Her faith guided her daily walk, strengthened her through challenges, and shaped the love she gave so freely to others.

Family meant everything to Vickie. She deeply loved and cherished the bond she shared with her sisters and brothers. That sibling connection was one of laughter, shared history, support, and unwavering loyalty. She is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Elaine; her father, Howard; her sister, Valorie; and her brother, Mike. We we take comfort in the hope that there is a joyful reunion beyond this life.

Her joy multiplied through generations. Vickie was a loving and proud grandmother to Nneka, Jaylen, Anissa, Kayla, Noah, and Harlem. She delighted in each of them and treasured every moment spent together. She was also blessed with four beautiful great-grandchildren, a living testament to the legacy she built through love and devotion.

Vickie’s life was one of steadfast devotion — to her husband, her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her siblings, her church, and her work. She lived with strength, loved with her whole heart, and stood firmly in her faith.

Though our hearts feel the weight of her absence, we celebrate a life well lived. The love she poured into her family continues to ripple through generations. The faith she stood on continues to inspire. The memories she created continue to comfort us.

We honor her life, we thank God for her, and we carry forward the legacy of love she so beautifully built.

The service for Vickie will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, 203 Main Street, Osawatomie, Kansas. Burial at Osawatomie Cemetery, West 327th Street, following the service.
