Health department announces flu vaccination schedule for October

MOUND CITY - Linn County Health Department (LCHD) Director Amanda Snyder reported on upcoming and completed health department activists to the Linn County Commission on Monday, Oct. 6.

Snyder told the commissioners that the health department will be having a breastfeeding and changing station at the Sugar Mound Arts and Crafts Fair this weekend.
Snyder listed the dates of the flu shot clinics, they are:
October 9 - Prairie View school district
October 14 - Jayhawk school district
October 15 - Fabcon Precast, Pleasanton
October 20 - County jail and at Blue Mound
October 27 - Linn Valley
October 30 - Courthouse annex for county employees
Snyder said that people can also get flu shots at the health department by scheduling an appointment. For more information, the health department number is 913-352-6640.
Other events coming up in October are:
Fall Baby Sprinkle is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 14 at the health department. Anybody who is expecting or has had a baby in the last six months is encouraged and welcome to attend.
Hands On CPR training for 4th grade Jayhawk students.
“Becoming a Mom” classes began last week.
The health department will be handing out toothbrush smile kits to every elementary age school child for Halloween.
Staff of the health department will be attending the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition Conference nest week.
In Snyder’s report for September, she said that the health department had 465 client appointments.
She reported that the highlights for September were school immunizations, Blue Mound women, infant and children (WIC) program, the trimester class curriculum training, hearing and vision screenings, the mammogram coach was back in Linn County and the health department hosted a mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) visitor training.
The Linn County Health Department also conducted a WIC training for health department staff from the counties of Neosho, Crawford, Cherokee, Bourbon, Allen, Woodson and Anderson.
Allen, Anderson, Bourbon and Woodson counties are served by the Southeast Kansas Multicounty Health Department (SEKMHD). Linn County Commissioner Jim Johnson has been pushing for the county to drop its own health department and rejoin the SEKMHD system, however, Commissioners Alison Hamilton and Jason Hightower have continued to support the wider range of services offered by LCHD.
