MOUND CITY – On Tuesday, Sept. 2, Linn County Health Department Director Amanda Snyder gave the department’s August monthly report and told the Linn County Commissioners about upcoming events.
Snyder told the commissioners that September was National Preparedness Month. She said there would be social media campaigns on the health department Facebook page throughout the month providing education and information about how families can be prepared for emergency situations.
Other upcoming events will be the mammogram coach returning again to the health department again on Sept.30 and that some appointment slots were still available. (See information on the mobile mammogram program below.)
Snyder said that scheduling for flu clinics will start in the next couple of weeks. The flu clinics will most likely start taking place the first week of October.

She said that the health department will be visiting local schools to get students caught up on immunizations as well as completing their hearing and vision screenings.
According to Snyder, the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program numbers are continuing to rise. She said the numbers are past the 200 client benchmark, and she should have a new report to run in the next week. That report will give the most current numbers after the month of August.
Snyder reported that she and Vicki Brown passed their exams and are now certified lactation counselors. She said they were now in the process of building a training curriculum for the breastfeeding peer counselors within this WIC region. The first course will take place on Sept. 17.
Snyder told the commissioners that the fall Baby Sprinkle is scheduled for Nov. 14 at the Linn County Health Department building. The Baby Sprinkle is a shower honoring all Linn County moms, and typically hundreds of dollars of supplies for mom are given away.
In her monthly report for August 2025 she reported that the health department had client appointment numbers were 271, up from 190 in 2024, and quite a large increase from 112 in 2023.
She said that August was full of immunizations, WIC appointments, a lot of new births and CPR classes.
