Three Jayhawk-Linn athletes had top 10 finishes at the Kansas State Track and Field Championship meet on Friday and Saturday, May 29-30
Senior hurdler Brea Dawson ended her high school career with a seventh-place finish in the 110-meter finals. Teammate Kiera McGrew also placed ninth in the discus with a throw of 109 feet 1 inch.

Dominic Alvarez, a junior, placed 10th in the 800 meter run.
In the 110-meter preliminaries Dawson set a school record and a personal best by clocking the distance in 15.25 seconds. However, her time in the final was 0.3 seconds slower at 15.55.
" I'm so happy for Brea," said coach Shayla Long in an email. "She has been right there every year, and finally made the podium. She ran well and lowered her school record in prelims to 15.25."
McGrew, also a senior, qualified for state with a 111-7 throw and a fifth-place finish at regional. She improved on distance over the last few meets, throwing 104-11 at the league meet earlier in May.
"Kiera made finals, but didn't medal," Long said. "While that's somewhat disappointing, she had a great season and making it to finals in the state meet is something to be proud of and respect."

Alvarez, a junior, broke the JLHS record for the 800-meter run by turning in a time of 2:01.08 at regionals. If anything, Alvarez was consistent. His time at state was 2:01.18.
"Dominic gained great experience in a fast race!," Long said.
In other events over the weekend.
• Josiah Randall placed 17th in the 110-meter hurdles.
• Seniors Brenlyn Bogan and Brilyn Bogan cleared the high jump crossbar at 4-10, with Brenlyn in a three-way tie for 17th and Brilyn in 21st place.
• The girls 4x400 team (Ren Wade, Brea Dawson, Brilyn Bogan, and Brenlyn Bogan) ran their 1600-meter race in 4:21.33.
• The girls 4x800 team (Ren Wade, Brilyn Bogan, Adeline Randall, Brenlyn Bogan) ran their 3200-meter race in 11.16.85
"Josiah ran a good race for his first state track meet," Long said. "Ren Wade got our relays out in a good place.
"It was a good way for our seniors to end, and a great learning experience for our younger kids. They'll be able to take that with them to the future."
