For the past quarter of a century the people of the La Cygne area have gathered together to share a Thanksgiving meal. Even during the COVID pandemic, volunteers cooked up turkeys, mixed up huge bowls of mashed potatoes and served up it up drive-through style when social distancing was recommended.
On Saturday, the tradition began by the late Arlene Ramsey around the turn of the century returns again to the La Cygne Christian Church at 406 N. Broadway in La Cygne. The dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15. Carry out dinners will also be available.
As they have for the past several years, area churches will sponsor the meal that is a traditional Thanksgiving feast in the truest sense: turkey with all of the fixings, potatoes, drinks and dessert.
Although the meal is free, both to those who walk through the doors or those who pick up the meal and take it home, donations are accepted. Usually enough donations are received during the dinner to pay for the subsequent year’s feast.
