Broadway in La Cygne was buzzing on Friday evening, Oct. 31, with pre-trick-or-treat activity. Families walked down the line of the brave souls who offered candy from their trunks, the backs of SUVs and even from bowls on a table.
At Thayer Park on the west side of the street, firefighters and family members from the La Cygne Fire Department served free hogs to a line that stretch from the pavilion back to the street. In front of City Hall, Mayor Debra Wilson and City Clerk Jodi Wade ran a children's game where blindfolded kids pinned a smile on a cartoon cat in return for treats.

The closure of the Family Café earlier this year meant that the long-time tradition there had come to an end. However, that added to crowd of a couple hundred people, many in costume, that filled the street.
A couple of observers noted, however, that the number of trunks with treats was down this year.
With a hot dog diner and pockets already full of treats, the ghosts and goblins of La Cygne faded into memories as they headed out for door-to-door trick-or-treating.
