MOUND CITY – The Linn County Commissioner heard a report from Fire Chief Randy Hegwald and went over the ambulance report on Monday, Aug. 12.
Hegwald told the commissioners that the fire department had six calls last week bringing the yearly total up to 343. The department report showed that the calls were one fire, two rescue and emergency services, one service call and two good-intent calls.
Hegwald asked permission to hire Tristian Ewert for the Parker Station as a probationary firefighter pending all pre-employment physical and blood testing. This brings the number of firefighters there up to nine out of the 15 approved for that station. The hiring of Ewert was approved by the commissioners.
Hegwald also recommended hiring Craig Wuerfele for the Mound City station as a probationary firefighter pending all pre-employment checks. This brings the number of firefighter at that station up to eight out of the 15 approved for that station. The commissioners approved the hiring.
Hegwald told the commissioners that he had a quote for fire extinguisher service equipment of $5,829 from Getz Equipment Innovators. He said that it would be four to five weeks before the equipment was delivered.
The commissioners approved the purchase of the equipment.
Hegwald said that he and Deputy Fire Chief Brian Shroyer still had to take the class and a written test before being able to work with the fire extinguishers.
American Medical Response (AMR) Operation Manager Dawn Brooks gave the weekly report to the commissioners. Brooks reported that during the period from Aug. 1 – 10 the ambulance made 33 calls resulting in 13 transports.
The written monthly report shows that the average response time is 12 minutes 51 seconds. The calls by city were:
• Blue Mound, 0 calls, 0 transport
• Centerville, 4 calls, 0 transports
• La Cygne, 6 calls, 5 transports
• Linn Valley, 2 calls, 2 transports
• Mound City, 4 calls, 1 transports
• Parker, 10 calls, 2 transports
• Pleasanton, 7 calls, 3 transports
• Prescott, 0 call, 0 transport
Response numbers and times for this time period by commission districts are:
District 1 - 1 response, 1 transports; 3 minutes 36 seconds average response time
District 2 - 9 responses, 7 transports; 10 minutes 41 seconds average response time
District 3 - 14 responses, 3 transports; 16 minutes 2 seconds average response time
