MOUND CITY – A 40-year-old man was taken into custody on Tuesday, Feb. 6, after a standoff at a rural Mound City residence with deputies from the Linn County Sheriff's Office. Randall Fincher was taken into custody on pending charges.

According to Sheriff Kevin Friend, a 61-year-old woman who had been brutally beaten showed up at the sheriff's office at 4:20 a.m. earlier that morning. Deputies took information from the woman and were able to assist by getting her medical attention. She was transported to a hospital for care and treatment.

"Deputies went to the home located in rural Mound City to attempt to locate the persons suspected of the attack," Friend said in a press release. "The subject was reported to be the son of the female.

"At the residence, the male at the home barricaded himself in his residence and would not cooperate with deputies. Subsequently, more deputies were called to the scene. "

Friend said that Fincher still would not cooperate or communicate with deputies. Armed with a search warrant written for the seizure of Fincher from within the home that was signed by a district judge, deputies entered the home.

"Fincher was arrested from within the home without incident and was taken to the Linn County Jail where he is currently awaiting formal charges," the release said. "Fincher should be considered innocent of any criminal activity until adjudicated in a court of law."
