Parker Days begin Friday evening with main event on Saturday

PARKER – Parker Days is set for this weekend, Sept. 18 – 20, beginning with a fish fry at the Masons’ Lodge on Friday evening and ending with a fishing tournament for all ages at Parker City Lake on Sunday afternoon.

The main events happen on Saturday with a parade on Saturday morning beginning at 11 a.m. Parker area businesses, 4-H clubs, and other organizations, including the Pride of the Buffalos Marching Band and cheerleaders, are expected to participate.

The afternoon activities will include a baby contest, kids games, free rides and inflatables, and a frozen t-shirt contest. In addition, food trucks, vendors and organizations raising money through food sales will be at Heritage Park.

Parker prince and princess candidates have been out selling raffle tickets leading up to the big day, and there will be a chance to make last minute purchases. The crowning of this year’s royalty will lead off evening events, followed by drawing of raffle tickets and awarding of the grand prize.

Savannah Chestnut and the Field Hands are the evening’s entertainment. Chestnut, who is from Americus, Kan., in the Flint Hills, gained national attention when she competed on season 20 of The Voice.

Sunday’s fishing tournament begins in the afternoon, and features a chance for the biggest fish in the city lake as well as other prizes.
