Police, deputies end suicide standoff peaceably

PLEASANTON — On September 7, 2026, officers with the Pleasanton Police

Department and deputies with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office responded to the

Pleasanton Campground, located on 18th Street in Pleasanton, regarding a report

of a suicidal subject.

Upon arrival, officers and deputies located an individual in the campground area who was

armed with a handgun. Due to the presence of multiple people in the area and the potential

threat to public safety, law enforcement personnel secured the scene and began

evacuating individuals from the campground.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team was requested to assist. A Linn

County Sheriff’s Office deputy with specialized training in crisis negotiations also

responded and began communicating with the armed subject. Negotiations continued for

several hours.

As a result of the coordinated response and continued crisis negotiation efforts, the

subject was persuaded to disarm and move to an open area. Members of the Special

Response Team then safely took the individual into custody. No injuries were reported.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office extends its appreciation to the Pleasanton Police

Department, responding deputies, Special Response Team members, and crisis

negotiation personnel for their professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to public

safety.
