MOUND CITY – A 43-year-old Indianapolis, Ind., man walked away uninjured after he guided his single-engine airplane to an emergency landing in a field southeast of the intersection of County Road 1095 and Road 1650.

Matthew Evans was the pilot of a Cessna 177A aircraft, which experienced engine failure as it flew over the area shortly after noon on Thursday, Feb. 20. According to the Kanas Highway Patrol report, Evan said that his fuel line froze, forcing the landing. The temperature at ground level at the time of the accident was about 14 degrees F.

There were no other passengers in the airplane, and no one on the ground was injured.

The 911 call came into Linn County dispatch about 12:11 p.m. Sheriff's deputies, Linn County Fire Department and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks assisted in rescuing the pilot following the forced landing.
