PLEASANTON – Organizers are hoping that this Saturday, June 29, the Stars and Stripes Celebration will revive the city’s Fourth of July Celebration tradition. Planned festivities include a parade, a free swim day at the city’s pool, a community picnic, bingo and a fireworks display at Stegge Lake at dark.

City officials say that lack of entries may scuttle the planned salsa and pie contests as well as the boat parade. The barbecue contest so far is lacking entries, but city officials are hoping more people will enter.

Despite that there will still be plenty of activities, however, including a free swim at the Pleasanton municipal pool from noon to 6 p.m.

The parade down Main Street will begin at 3 p.m. with the line-up starting at 2:30 p.m. Following the main parade, there will be a kids wagon parade at the Pleasanton Community Center.

At 4 p.m., vendors will open shop on Main Street, including a face-painting and hair-coloring booth.  Planning on mid-summer weather, the Pleasanton Fire Department will be on hand to cool off kids until 5 p.m.

At 6 p.m. the community picnic will be served at the community center. The city will provide meat, drinks and table service, and organizers are requesting diners to bring a side dish to share.

At 6:30 p.m. the winners of the Princess Liberty and Prince Freedom contest will be announced. A drawing for the top prizes will also happen then. Princess and prince contestants will be selling raffle tickets for $1 each, and first prize will be an Xbox Bundle with second prize listed as a Nintendo Switch.

Prince and princess contestants will receive 10% of the tickets they sell with the remainder split between paying for 2025 fireworks and swimming pool improvements.

Bingo is scheduled for 7 to 8 p.m. at the community center.

The fireworks at Stegge Lake begin at dark, or about 9 p.m. The people who provided the display at Jayhawk Blast earlier this month will be presenting the Pleasanton show.
