Prairie View senior running back and linebacker Parker Schwarz will sign to play for the University of Kansas Jayhawks football team. He will be designated as a preferred walk-on player.
Early in the 2025 football season, Schwarz indicated he planned to attend Washburn University in Topeka to study business. That decision has obviously changed
In December Schwarz, 6’2” at 220 pounds, was named to the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) All-Class 3A Football Team as a running back. Earlier this month came the announcement that he had been selection to play linebacker for the East Team in the Shrine Bowl in June.
During the 2025 season, Schwarz was a powerhouse on both sides of the football. As a linebacker for the Buffalos, he had 57 unassisted tackles and 10 assisted tackles. He also had three interceptions that he returned for a total of 57 yards.
Schwarz throughout his high school has been one of the leading rushers in the state. This year he carried the ball 213 times and racked up 2,500 yards on the ground for an average of 250 yards a game. By the end of October, he had surpassed the 6,000-yard high school career rushing total.
Schwarz is expected to sign his letter of intent to join the Jayhawks at the beginning of a pep rally at Prairie View on Friday, Feb. 6, at 2:45 p.m., according to Mark Hough, PVHS activities director.
Schwarz will be the fifth Buffalo to sign with a NCAA Division I team in the school’s history
Prairie View alumnus Brody Eldridge played for the Oklahoma Sooners despite breaking his ankle during the second game of his senior year at Prairie View. He was named to the 2007 All-Big 12 Conference team. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 2010, and played for the St. Louis Rams and the Chicago Bears before being waived by the Bears to replace an injured quarterback.
Other Division I players include:
Brent Boydston, who played for the K-State Wildcats from 1997 to 2001,
Justin Peine, who played for Northern Iowa University,
Matt Kellerman who signed with Oklahoma State.
