Pleasanton City Council member Aaron Portmann did not file for reelection, but a late write-in campaign by both Portmann and Dennis Mitchell failed to provide enough votes to elect them to three open seats on the council.
Portmann received 58 votes and Mitchell received 36 votes. But both were short of the 73 votes needed to surpass third place finisher Sandra Haynes. Incumbent Rochelle Schreckhise (107 votes) and Kenny Stark (74 votes), who were on the ballot finished in the top two spots.
On Monday, Mayor Mathew Young appointed a new council member to replace the late Angie Randall, however the council stalled before accepting the appointment. See our related story.
Write-ins upset results in Prescott
If you consider the candidates who filed for the mayor’s seat and two council seats in Prescott, it seemed like a shoo-in for Keith Bloomfield as mayor and incumbent Ronald Roberts and Brian Bloomfield as the unopposed winners.
However, write-in candidate Jesse Spears appears to be the new mayor with 44 votes to Keith Bloomfield’s 25 votes.
And write-in candidate Sherri Olson received 40 votes, edging Brian Bloomfield, with 33 votes, out of a council seat
Write-in votes in other city and school board races did not affect the outcomes.
The only other major write-in effort was in Linn Valley where in the race for the city council incumbent Robert Suppenbach, who had not filed for reelection, received 44 write-in votes. However, that was not enough to catch Phillip Schellenberg, who received 100 votes for third place and a seat on the council.
