The Materials Girls quilt guild met on Thursday, May 21, at the F&M Bank Community
Building in Mound City with 20 members and two visitors attending. The
visitors joined and membership has reached 29.
Patriotic raffle quilt blocks have been turned in. Denise Jurgens will set
the blocks together and quilt. Raffle tickets will be available soon at $5 each or
five for $20.
The quilt will be shown at several events, including at Mound City Historical Park during “Live Like It’s 1776” on July 3, the Blue Mound celebration on July 4 th , General Pleasonton Day on Oct. 3, Olathe Quilters Guild, Mound City's Jayhawk Blast in September, the Fall Festival at Mound City's Historical Park Oct. 11 – 12. Drawing will be Oct. 11. Material Girls needs volunteers to help get the word out.
Members discussed a bus trip to Missouri Star Quilt Company in Hamilton,
Mo., and several showed interest. Members also considered a group “Shop Hop” of
several shops of their own choosing.
The speaker coming for July 16 meeting will discuss “COLOR.” Another speaker is scheduled in October.
Members brought one “orphan block” (or more) to exchange. Those participating were able to choose several to make an item with other fabrics and bring back to June meeting.
Shelly Gill spoke of her recent quilt retreat in Ozark, Mo., making Quilts of Valor. After they are made, those quilts are then donated to an organization for distribution to veterans.
Members were requested to donate 100 fabric strips measuring 3 inches by 18 inches for
making Quiet Dolls at “Live Like It’s 1776” sponsored by the Mound City Historical Society and Mound City Library. Several volunteered.
The next meeting will be June 18.
