LA CYGNE – Three new members of the five-member La Cygne City Council took the oath of office in a brief session on Monday, Jan. 12. With a light agenda, the meeting focused on swearing in the new councilmembers and giving them a short orientation on their duties and information resources available.

Oscar Marino, Robert Sullivan and Kent Wade, all of whom were elected on write-in ballots in November, read the oath of office.

Keith Stoker, who was retiring from his council seat, attended the meeting so that there would be a quorum of three along with Councilmembers Ed Smith and Jerome Mitzner to open the meeting.

La Cygne Mayor Debra Wilson took the opportunity of the light agenda to appoint councilmembers to the five council committees. The appointments are:

• City facilities – Smith and Wade

• Employee relations and training – Mitzner and Smith

• Public safety – Marino and Mitzner

• Streets – Sullivan and Wade

• Utilities – Marino and Sullivan
