Voters return school board members to office; Extension district to have new members

By Roger Sims

MOUND CITY – With open seats on all three Linn County school districts at stake, and two seats on the Marais des Cygnes Extension District Council at stake, many of the voters in the county had only one or two issues on which to vote.

All three of the incumbents on the Pleasanton USD 344 Board of Education appear to be headed for another four-year term. That includes current board president Cindy Inman, Meredith Johnson and Kaye Hardy.

Ron Miller and Kayleigh England were not successful in their bid to be elected to the board.

Here are the unofficial results:

Cindy Inman 195

Meredith Johnson 170

Kay Hardy 153

Kayleigh England   73

Ron Miller   40

Write-in   13

Races in the other two districts were not ever contested. In the Jayhawk USD 346, all three of the incumbents won another four-year term.

Here are the results:

Position 4

Traci Springer           35

Write-in             3

Position 5

Matt Higgins           36

Write-in             1

Position 6

Ketturah “Kitty” Rhynerson  36

Write-in                                   1

Candidates for the three open seats on the Prairie View USD 362 board also had no opposition. Wade Teagarden, a longtime member of the board, retained his seat.

David Houston, who received a substantial number of votes likely because of Linn Valley city elections, will replace George Nunnemacher as the representative from the Linn Valley area. Nunnemacher moved out of that district and was ineligible to run for reelection.

Heather Schull will replace Rita Boydston, who decided not to run for reelection after serving two terms in office.

Here are the results:

Position 4

David Houston

Write-in 4

Position 5

Heather Schull

Write-in 3

Position 6

Wade Teagarden

Write-in 1

Not only was Rhynerson reelected to her position on the Jayhawk school board, she added a seat on the Marais des Cygnes Extension District board to her résumé. So did Stacy Reagan, who is on staff at the Linn County Soil Conservation District, an officer of the Pleasanton Saddle Club, and has been very involved in the Linn County Fair.

Here are the results:

Ketturah “Kitty” Rhynerson.    612

Stacy J. Reagan                      579

Ron L. Miller              347

Write-in                                      10

All results are unofficial until the count is canvassed by the Linn County Commission.
