LA CYGNE – Wildwood Outdoor Education Center is offering a day camp for youth from Linn and Miami counties. The day camp, which runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, targets children in grades one through five.
Hunter Witt, a spokesperson for the center, said that about 100 kids from Linn and Miami counties attended the day camp in 2025.
The camp is located in the southeast corner of Miami County at 7095 W. 399th St., La Cygne. For more information, go to the center's website, https://wildwoodctr.org , or call 913-738-9067.
As of January, the center planned to have free transportation stops available in La Cygne, Paola, Osawatomie and Louisburg.
Some of the activities at the day camps include swimming, nature exploration, boating, arts and crafts, and archery, Witt said. In addition to participating in activities, each child is served lunch and a morning snack.
Although there is a fee for the camp, the center offers financial aid for families who want to take part but may not be able to afford it. The aid is only partly based on salary, she said, adding that the number of children in the family, medical issues and even whether the child is in the state’s foster program.
“We try to get a good scope of what the financial needs are for the family, Witt said.
There are three sessions available in June, four in July and one in August before school starts.
