Betty Alice Smith Fyock, age 92, formerly of Prescott, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024. She was born on November 7, 1931, in Blue Mound, Kansas the daughter of Fred M and Mary C Hollis Smith. She graduated from Mound City High School in the Class of 1949. She then went to work at the Linn County Treasurer's Office.
Betty was united in marriage to Leonard Fyock on May 20, 1951, joining him in Columbus, Georgia, where he was stationed in the Army. Upon returning home one and half years later, she took employment at the Linn County Court House, later, Key Industries, Stevens Produce, Midwestern Express, Pleasanton Mill and Elevator, Prescott City Clerk, and served on the Prescott City Council.
Betty's family was the most important thing in life to her, from her husband to her two children, five grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Fulton Methodist Church. Betty loved collecting salt and pepper shakers. In her lifetime, she collected over 8000 sets. She loved going to garage sales, playing games and spending time with family. Christmas was always a big to do with lots of food and gifts for the grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leonard; one brother, Robert Smith; two sisters, Josephine Johnson and Anna Mae Carrol; and her parents, Fred Smith and Mary (Hollis) Smith. Betty is survived by her son, Terry Fyock and wife, Susan; daughter Judy Swickard and husband Cal; grandchildren, Candi Kusler and husband Randy, Kenna Giambalvo and husband Vince, Summer Rhodes and husband Trenton, Autumn Fyock, Levi Fyock and wife Jennie,;and eleven great-grandchildren, Logan Kusler and wife Kaylyn, Linsey (Kusler) Magill and husband Colten, Morgan Kusler, Vincent II and Vienna Giambalvo, Nova and Easton Rhodes, Sidney and Lundon Tersinar, Gracie and Alice Fyock.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial will be in the Prescott Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to service time at the Pleasanton Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to Fulton Methodist Church.
