Betty J. Secrest, age 91 formerly of Pleasanton, Kansas passed away in Olathe, Kansas, on August 5, 2024.  She was born the daughter of Jon and Ethel (Ison) Slater on February 1, 1933, at Pleasanton, Kansas.


Betty graduated from Pleasanton High School and went on to the Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg and obtained her teaching certificate. She married Richard S. Secrest on October 18, 1952, in Pleasanton, he preceded her in death in May of 2023.


Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Nevada, Missouri.  She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, reading mysteries and gardening.  She was a 4H leader, when her children were growing up and she also  had an exceptional love for dogs.


Betty was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Eugene and Paul Slater; and one sister, Virginia Johnson.  She is survived by daughter, Connie Northup; two sons, Richard and Russell Secrest; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.


Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the Pleasanton Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until leaving for the service.  The family suggests memorial contributions to  Paws & Claws of Fort Scott or Presbyterian Manors of Mid America (PMMA), and may be sent in care of the funeral home to Schneider Funeral Home  P.O.
