Demolition derby kicks off Linn County Fair night shows

The  Demolition Derby begins the 156th annual Linn County Fair, in Mound City on Saturday, August 1, at 7:30 pm. Coronation of the 2026 Linn County Fair queen will take place before the start of the derby.

The Rookie Bonestock Compact class – drivers 14 to 17 years old – returns this year.

“The Rookie class was popular both with the young drivers and spectators last year,”  said derby chairman Mike Gillispie of Parker. “The Rookie class was our second largest in 2025 and we expect entries to increase this year.”

Also returning after a one year hiatus is the Figure 8 compact race.

“The Bonestock Compacts make up our largest car count, and this gives the demolition derby car builders a second chance to win prize money,” Gillispie added.

The derby is one of the most popular evening events at the fair. It draws many entries from across Linn County and surrounding counties as well.

Other classes include 80’s and Newer Bonestock, Compact Bonestock, Hobo Motor Swap and Limited Weld.

The crowning of the 2026 Linn County Fair & Rodeo Queen will precede the start on the demolition derby, followed by the Power Wheel class for the youngest drivers.
