Fire and ambulance reports given at Jan. 20 meeting

MOUND CITY – The Linn County Commissioners received reports from the ambulance service and county fire chief on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Fire Chief Randy Hegwald reported that there were 13 total calls for the week ending Jan. 17, which brings the yearly total up to 31 calls. There were two structure fires, three wildland fires, two emergency medical service assists, three vehicle crashes, one gas leak, and two mutual aid requests.

Hegwald said that he would like permission from the commissioners to talk to Anderson County. He said that officials there called asking about whether Linn County had any extra cascade bottles from the old system that Linn County used to use to fill their self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) bottles.

Hegwald said that Linn County was not using the bottles anymore and they were just taking up space in the stations. He said they were actually one of the things insurance had written them up on about not being secured.

Hegwald said that Anderson County needed four of the bottles and Linn County has as many as 40 bottles. The commissioners agreed and Hegwald will get a surplus resolution to the next meeting. He will also work on a way to sell the remainder of the bottles.

Hegwald told the commissioners that he worked a lot with Jason Parker the GIS/Mapping administrator. He said that when the fire department asked Parker for a map he gets them  all of the information they want very quickly. He said that he appreciated that the transition from former GIS/Mapping Administrator Pam Cannon to Parker has been very smooth.

The commissioners reviewed the American Medical Response (AMR) report for Jan. 1 through Jan. 19  from  operations manager Dawn Brooks, who was unable to attend the meeting.  The report showed there had been a total of 77 calls resulting in 43 transports.
