Patricia Lenora “Patsy” Dykes, age 86, of Greeley, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Vintage Park of Osawatomie.
Born August 11, 1938, in Greeley, Patsy was the youngest of three daughters born to Stephen Adolph and Cecelia Frances (Gelhaus) Rues. She was a proud graduate of Greeley High School, Class of 1956.
On July 22, 1958, Patsy was united in marriage to Charles Dykes at St. John's Catholic Church in Greeley. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family, raising two children, Jeffry and Shari, in their hometown.
Patsy had a natural flair for beauty—especially when it came to her beloved flowers and home décor. Whether she was gardening, rearranging her furniture, or decorating for the seasons, Patsy brought color and life to every corner. Her talent for growing flowers was matched only by her spirited nature and strong will, which those who knew her lovingly describe as ornery in the best of ways.
She was a past member of St. John’s Catholic Parish in Greeley and remained deeply connected to her roots and community throughout her life.
Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; and both of her sisters, Joann Lickteig and Bernadette Chase.
She is survived by her children: Jeffry and Susan Dykes of Paola, KS, and Shari and Terry Smith of Westphalia, KS. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Erica (Dylan) Shotton, Ryan Dykes, Justin (Liz) Smith, Aaron Dykes, Mandy (Wayne Ramirez) Dykes, Jason (Joni) Smith, and Austin Smith; and eight great-grandchildren, Davis, Victor, Emma, Ensley, Julian, Scarlett, Jace, and Layla. Patsy will also be remembered fondly by many extended family members and friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Vintage Park of Osawatomie and Good Shepherd Hospice for the care they gave to Patsy.
Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday June 6, 2025, at St. John's Cemetery in Greeley, KS. Memorial contributions are to W.I.N.G.S and may be sent c/o Eddy Birchard Funeral Home P.O. Box 430, Osawatomie, KS 66064.
